  1. Prof. Elizabeth Bukusi
    PROF. ELIZABETH BUKUSI, MBChB, M.Med (ObGyn), MPH, PhD, PGD (Research Ethics), MBE, is a Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences (FAAS). She is a Senior Principal Clinical Research Scientist at the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), a Research Professor at the University of Washington (Departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Global health), and an honorary lecturer at Aga Khan University in Nairobi and Maseno University (Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology).

  2. Dr. Felix Mogaka
    DR. FELIX MOGAKA is a clinical research scientist at the Kenya Medical Research Institute, Centre for Microbiology Research, Research Care and Training Program, in Kisumu, Kenya. His research focuses on the prevention of STIs and HIV through newer diagnostics, biomedical prevention, expanding reach and access to sexual health services through differentiated service delivery models, and supporting the ministry of health to translateresearch into policy.

  3. Dr. Charles Muga
    DR. CHARLES TIMOTHY MUGA is among other functions, the Principal Investigator as well as Co-Investigator and Social Science Advisor for a number of projects sponsored by KELIN, Kenya. Dr. Muga also offers advisory services as a Social science / Community Engagement Consultant for the Kenya Pediatric Research Consortium and the Kenya Mental Health Foundation. He has worked as a Curriculum Development Consultant for the CBEC-KEMRI Bioethics Training Initiative. Moreover, he serves as a Radio Talk Show Consultant. He also serves as an advisory board member for the Organic Response initiative on Mfangano Island in Suba, Homabay County.

  4. Mrs Caroline Kithinji
    MS. CAROLINE KITHINJI is a seasoned bioethicist with over 20 years of experience in research ethics governance, capacity building, and committee leadership in Kenya and the wider African region. She currently serves as Head of Training at the Scientific and Ethics Review Unit (SERU) of the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) and as Adjunct Faculty and Coordinator of the Master in Bioethics program at AMREF International University. She has extensive experience serving on and leading institutional ethics committees and Data Safety and Monitoring Boards, including roles as Vice Chair of the Aga Khan University Hospital Ethics Committee, Secretary of the Bioethics Society of Kenya, and DSMB Chair/Member for multi-country clinical trials. Caroline is a Certified IRB Professional (PRIM&R), a Fogarty African Bioethics Fellow, and has published on research ethics systems, informed consent processes, and the intersection of ethics and cultural contexts in Africa. She brings proven expertise in ensuring ethical rigor in research while remaining responsive to local contexts.

  5. Dr. Serah Gitome
    DR. SERAH GITOME MBChB (UoN), MPH (UC Berkeley), is a clinical research scientist and Acting Deputy Director of the Sexual Reproductive Adolescent and Child Health (SRACH) Program at KEMRI. With 17 years of experience at the intersection of HIV prevention and sexual and reproductive health in Kenya, she brings a rare blend of clinical and sociobehavioral perspectives to complex reproductive health challenges.

  6. Prof. Walter Jaoko
    PROF. WALTER JAOKO is a Physician, and Professor of Medical Microbiology and Tropical Medicine, and former Director of KAVI-Institute of Clinical Research, at the University of Nairobi. He is also an Extraordinary Professor of Medicine at Stellenbosch University at the Centre for Bioethics and Law in the Department of Medicine. He holds a bachelor’s degree in medicine and a PhD in medical microbiology from University of Nairobi, a Master’s degree in tropical medicine from Liverpool University, a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Research Ethics from Stellenbosch University and a Master’s degree in Global Bioethics from Anahuac University.

  7. Dr. James Ayieko
    DR. JAMES AYIEKO MBChB, MPH, PhD is a medical doctor who holds an MPH from University of California, Berkeley and a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Antwerp, Belgium. James’ career over the last decade has centered around HIV care and ways of improving treatment outcomes in low resource settings. His area of interest has been improving treatment outcomes by optimizing the HIV care cascade right from linkage of HIV infected individuals to care, retention and viral suppression. He has participated in designing, implementation and evaluation of various interventions aimed at improving care engagement among people living with HIV in rural Uganda and Kenya. Currently he works with the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) as a research scientist and is an investigator in the SEARCH SAPPHIRE HIV treatment and Prevention trial, the COMPASS hypertension telehealth trial,IBIS HIV retesting megatrial among others.

  8. Prof. Nyawira Gitahi
    PROF. NYAWIRA GITAHI is currently a Clinical Researcher at the Kenya Medical Research Institute and Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Moi University. She started her research career as a Lead Physician and Assistant Site Coordinator (Nairobi site) for a phase three clinical trial. That experience provided her with hands-on leadership, administrative and coaching experience. She has been PI on an NIH training grant and a European Development Training grant. She has also served as coinvestigator on several multi-country training grants with the specific roles of coordination of study activities across regions, ethical compliance and oversight of financial accountability. Over the past two years, she has coordinated the contextual adaptation, review and development of an online-based curriculum in implementation science that targets PhD students. She is currently serving faculty for the first cohort. She has mentored over 25 young scientists and supervised over 12 masters’ students.

  9. Dr. Patrick Oyaro
    DR. PATRICK OYARO is a Project Director at LVCT Health serving as the Chief of Party of USAID Stawisha Pwani project supporting HIV, TB and reproductive health, maternal, neonatal and child health (RMNCAH) services in four coastal counties and the acting Chief Executive Officer of Health Innovations Kenya, a nongovernmental organization supporting healthcare research and training in Kenya. Previously he served as the Project Director of FACES, which was a PEPFAR funded collaborative between University of California, San Francisco and the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI). Patrick who is a medical doctor and public health specialist has over twentyone years of experience in HIV clinical care and program management. He has been a co-investigator on several studies on HIV prevention and treatment in Kenya. He is currently a PhD student in Implementation Science at the University of Nairobi.
