Description

The KIDS OR Training is a multidisciplinary capacity-building program designed to strengthen the knowledge and practical skills of healthcare providers involved in paediatric surgical and perioperative care. The training brings together surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals to enhance their understanding of the management of sick children requiring surgical intervention. Through theoretical sessions, specialized breakout discussions, and live operative case reviews, participants will build competence in delivering safe, timely, and effective paediatric surgical care. The program also promotes teamwork, decision-making, and adherence to best practices in perioperative management.

Objectives

To improve participants’ understanding of paediatric anatomical and physiological considerations in surgical care. To strengthen clinical decision-making in the assessment, stabilization, and referral of sick children. To enhance knowledge and practical skills in fluid management, shock management, and emergency response in paediatric patients. To build cadre-specific competencies in paediatric surgery, orthopaedics, anaesthesia, and perioperative nursing care. To provide hands-on learning through live operative cases and real-time case discussions. To strengthen teamwork and multidisciplinary collaboration in the care of paediatric surgical patients. To promote safe surgical and anaesthesia practices through adherence to established protocols and checklists such as the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist.
