Description

Sickle cell Crise

Objectives

Define sickle cell disease (SCD) and its genetic basis. Explain the different types of sickle cell crises (e.g., vaso-occlusive, aplastic, sequestration, hemolytic). Discuss the triggers of sickle cell crises (e.g., dehydration, infections, stress, cold temperatures). Identify symptoms of vaso-occlusive crisis (severe pain, swelling, joint tenderness). Recognize signs of acute chest syndrome (difficulty breathing, chest pain, fever). Assess for splenic sequestration crisis (enlarged spleen, sudden weakness, pallor). Detect signs of stroke in children with SCD (weakness, slurred speech, seizures).
