Description

Preeclampsia presentation includes both symptoms and objective findings such as high blood pressure (140/90 mmHg or higher) and signs of organ damage like protein in the urine. Common symptoms are severe headaches, vision changes (blurred vision, flashing lights), and upper abdominal pain. Other signs can include shortness of breath, nausea, sudden weight gain, and swelling, particularly in the face and hands. Some people may have no noticeable symptoms at all.

Objectives

Objective findings (often detected during prenatal visits) High blood pressure: Defined as \(140/90\) mmHg or higher.Proteinuria: Excess protein in the urine.Low platelet count: Thrombocytopenia, can be found in blood tests.Elevated liver enzymes: Indicates liver stress or damage, also found in blood tests.Reduced kidney function: May be indicated by decreased urine output (oliguria) or other blood tests.Hyperreflexia: Overactive reflexes, a sign of a high risk for seizure activity.
