Description

This Continuing Medical Education (CME) session will explore the principles and clinical applications of orthobiologics in the management of musculoskeletal injuries and degenerative conditions. Participants will gain an understanding of the science behind orthobiologic therapies, including platelet-rich plasma (PRP), bone grafts, stem cells, growth factors, and synthetic substitutes. The session will highlight evidence-based indications, preparation techniques, administration methods, safety considerations, and emerging trends. A multidisciplinary approach involving orthopaedic surgeons, sports medicine specialists, rehabilitation experts, nurses, and pharmacists will be emphasized to optimize patient outcomes.

Objectives

By the end of this CME session, participants will be able to: Foundations of Orthobiologics Define orthobiologics and describe their mechanisms of action in tissue healing and regeneration. Identify the commonly used orthobiologic agents (e.g., PRP, bone marrow aspirate concentrate, autografts, allografts, synthetic substitutes). Clinical Applications Discuss the role of orthobiologics in fracture healing, spinal fusion, cartilage repair, ligament/tendon injuries, and osteoarthritis management. Evaluate the evidence supporting the use of different orthobiologic interventions in orthopaedic and sports medicine practice. Preparation and Administration Describe the processes involved in harvesting, preparing, and delivering orthobiologic agents safely. Demonstrate correct handling protocols to maintain sterility and maximize efficacy. Safety and Ethical Considerations Recognize potential complications, contraindications, and limitations of orthobiologic therapies. Understand ethical, regulatory, and cost-related issues surrounding orthobiologics use in clinical practice. Multidisciplinary Care and Future Directions Integrate orthobiologic therapies into patient-centered treatment plans alongside surgery, pharmacotherapy, and rehabilitation. Explore future trends, innovations, and ongoing research in regenerative medicine and orthobiologics.
