Introduction to Dental Implants and Patient Psychology in Implant Dentistry General Objective: To provide learners with foundational knowledge of dental implantology, tracing its historical evolution and emphasizing the role of patient psychology in achieving successful implant outcomes.

Objectives

Specific Learning Objectives: A. Implant Introduction & History By the end of this session, participants should be able to: Define dental implants and explain their purpose in oral rehabilitation. Describe the historical development of dental implants, from ancient techniques to modern osseointegration principles. Identify key pioneers and milestones that shaped contemporary implantology (e.g., Brånemark’s discovery). Discuss the evolution of implant materials, designs, and surface technologies. Recognize the impact of technological advancements (e.g., digital workflows, 3D imaging, guided surgery) on implant practice. Differentiate between various types of implants and their clinical indications. B. Patient Psychology in Implant Dentistry By the end of this session, participants should be able to: Explain the importance of understanding patient psychology in implant treatment planning and execution. Identify psychological factors influencing a patient’s decision to undergo implant therapy (e.g., anxiety, motivation, expectations, self-image). Discuss communication strategies for establishing trust and managing patient expectations. Recognize the stages of psychological adaptation before, during, and after implant placement. Apply basic principles of behavioral science to enhance patient cooperation and satisfaction. Evaluate the role of empathy, ethical communication, and informed consent in implant practice.
