Description

Tuberculosis remains one of the leading infectious diseases affecting children around the world. With rapid advances in medical technology, digital health, and data-driven care, we now have new opportunities to improve how we detect, diagnose, and treat TB in children. In this session, we will explore how digital innovations are transforming paediatric TB management. Our speaker will share insights on current challenges, emerging solutions, and how technology can bridge gaps in access and outcomes for children everywhere.

Objectives

Describe the current epidemiology and burden of paediatric TB, including trends in diagnosis and treatment outcomes in the digital era. Recognize clinical presentations of PTB in children, including atypical symptoms and TB in high-risk groups (HIV-exposed/infected children, malnourished children, under-5s). Apply digital diagnostic tools and innovations (e.g., AI chest X-ray support tools, GeneXpert mapping, digital symptom checkers) to improve early TB case detection in children. Explain the role of technology in TB prevention and care including SMS reminders and Video DOT Demonstrate knowledge of WHO-aligned management guidelines, including treatment regimens for drug-sensitive and drug-resistant childhood TB. Identify opportunities for telemedicine in TB screening, treatment follow-up, family counselling, and management of comorbidities (HIV, malnutrition). Utilize digital tools for provider support and training, including e-TB mobile apps, e-learning platforms, and national TB databases.
