Description

Postnatal care is the care given to a mother and newborn after birth to promote their health and reduce the risk of complications and death. It's recommended that postnatal care continues for the first 6–8 weeks after birth.

Objectives

Here are some aspects of postnatal care: Checkups: The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends at least four postnatal checkups for both the mother and newborn: Within 24 hours 10–14 days 4–6 weeks 4–6 months Danger signs: Families should be taught to identify danger signs for both the mother and newborn. Some danger signs for the mother include increased vaginal bleeding, fever, and severe headaches. Some danger signs for the newborn include difficulty breathing, fever, and bleeding. Breastfeeding: Early and exclusive breastfeeding is recommended. Lifestyle: A healthy lifestyle with good nutrition is important. Education: Women and their families should be educated about normal physiological changes, breastfeeding, and parenting. Partner involvement: Partners should be encouraged to be involved in checkups and provide support. Mental health: Screening for maternal depression and anxiety is recommended.
